The Big Hoax

Every day our lawmakers and pundits bombard us with BS.  They say, “we are a nation of laws,” but are we?  Sure, we employ sixty Senators and  four hundred and thirty-five representatives to write and pass laws, and they do write laws by the hundreds every year. When some poor slob has a problem, he writes to his Congressman to fix his problem so it never happens again. The Congressman, eager to keep his job for a lifetime drafts a law. He lobbies his friends in congress to vote for it. Together, they vote the law in. The rest of us who do not have the same problem  don’t really give a rats hoot about it. The law stays on the books, and congress forgets about it. Someone finds a loophole in the old law, and applies it inappropriately. Time passes, and some genius Congressman decides to be creative by working around the silly house rules requiring that congress debate it first, then vote on it.  A recent example of this is the reconciliation bill. The Senate adopted the reconciliation bill to fix differences between the house, and the senate versions of the health care bill. Originally, the bill reconciled differences in the budget.

How many laws do we have that lurk in the books with hidden time bombs like the reconciliation bill? Today, I tried researching what it takes for a person coming into this country to come in legally.  Try to Google that one. I got thousands of hits on what an American needs to get into Mexico, but very little on what a Mexican needs to get into the USA. There are stories of overcrowded border crossings and border patrol people at the gates who do a poor job at checking the credentials of those coming across.

I was able to glean that several presidents were involved in opening the gates to the USA. Remember when, Jimmy Carter tried to make the country bi-lingual? He wanted to post all the signs in the country in Spanish as well as English. I bet that is where “dial one for English,” crept into the vocabulary. Bill Clinton made the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) part of his agenda. He also began looking the other way when the Mexicans began flooding across the border to jobs in border towns.  George Bush was no better. He wanted the country to have low-cost labor to pick lettuce, wash dishes, and mow lawns. He is highly regarded by the Latino population in Texas.

I spent considerable time looking for the requirements for a Mexican to enter legally. I found one reference to a form that day workers use. Another actually mentioned a passport. A visa is not required. I’m sure the State Department knows what the rules are for entry, but I sure as hell don’t.

So, what is the hoax? The hoax is we are a nation of laws. We have books filled with laws on immigration to the USA. Most of them worked very well until the 1980’s. (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA)). Ever since then, we have forgotten what the laws are, and disregard them. We fail to enforce immigration laws. Presidents encourage the border patrols to look the other way. Federal Immigration laws are in such poor regard that big cities pass “sanctuary” laws. A sanctuary law prohibits the police from determining if arrestees are in the country legally.  We do have many immigration laws, but hypocritically, we pass laws to say we don’t have to follow the laws. What is that all about?

The next big push by our president is to reform immigration. I have some recommendations:

  1.  Start by enforcing the laws we already have on the books.
  2. Several presidents have chosen to clean house by deporting all illegal aliens.
    1. During the Great Depression, President Herbert H. Hoover,  (R) ordered the
deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available  to  American
      citizens that desperately needed  work.
    2. Harry S. Truman, (D) deported over one million Illegal aliens after WWII to create jobs for veterans.
    3. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower,  (R) deported 1.3 million Mexican Nationals during ‘Operation Wetback’. He did it to give returning WWII, and Korean Veteran’s  a better chance at jobs. It took two years, but the illegal aliens went home by deportation!

These three Presidents deported illegal aliens to help the country.  Obama can do it too. He has both justifications, i.e. a poor economy and returning veterans.

  1. After we clean house, I recommend we use the laws we already have to allow these people to return legally. This is a tough action. We must take it if we are to live up to the claim that “we are a nation of laws.” If we don’t, we are perpetrating the HOAX and spreading hypocrisy across the world.

Obama will not do it because he is part of the HOAX.

Barack’s Self Fulfilled Prophecy

My Flag Flies Everyday

My Flag Flies Everyday

Today, I saw another interesting news bit. This time it was a map of the US showing the states that are asking for a bailout. Of course, my home state of Illinois is up there with its hand out too. We have good company though; New York, Ohio, California, Arizona, and a few others. All of these states share a common trait. Their political populations are Democratic.  What is it about Democrats? Why are they lined up with their hands out? Do they know any other way to live?

I can only speak for Illinois,  but I’m sure the other states have similar problems. The biggest problem in Illinois is that our leaders have never heard of the concept of a balanced budget. They do, however, know how to spend, raise taxes, and raid pension funds. Recently, Cook County President, Todd Stroger instituted a sales tax increase which makes the residents of Cook County among the highest tax payers in the country. The ink isn’t even dry on the law yet, and he is asking for a bailout. When is enough, enough?

Without a curb on spending and learning to live within our means, the deficit grows, and grows, and grows. Each of the states listed in the bailout demographic has a long time penchant for spending except Arizona. These states have never learned to say “no.” I was surprised to see Arizona included in this demographic, until I realized that they too have become democratic in recent years. At one time, Arizona was a very conservative state. They are now faced with shortfalls, and debt that is beyond their means to pay. Is this what appeals to Democrats?

Our Federal  Government is no different, except it owns the printing press, and the plates for making money. Each Democratic government from Lyndon Johnson to Bill Clinton supported spending beyond the means to pay back. They invented social programs which caused the banking system to fail, and legislated laws governing everything from fuel mileage to drilling  for oil.

Democrat Bill Clinton brags about his balanced budget and a predicted budget surplus. It is my thinking that the government should have lowered taxes to give the surplus back before the temptation to spend it went into high gear. Our representatives in Washington only saw it as an opportunity to spend it all before we figured it out.

Along comes Barack Obama who for the past two years has been brainwashing the country into believing life is really bad. He created the concept of “failed economic policies,” and turned the idea into a “self fulfilling prophecy.” In very eloquent rhetoric he hypnotized the populace into believing the failure was real. Then, very cleverly, he blamed it on George Bush. I am not a big supporter of W, but give me a break. He is not the reason the banks failed. He did stretch us with the war, but not the subprime loan curse. Had he found WMD in Iraq, things might be different. We didn’t find them, so we have a huge expenditure we don’t need.

Now, we are faced with a prophecy that is becoming reality. Barack was so good at brainwashing the country, he is being called upon to correct his largest problem, i.e. keeping the country from going into a full blown depression. The number of states lined up with a hand out is a glance into the near future of “Change We Can Believe In.” He never did define what the change would be, did he?.

Sarah Is Ready

My Flag Flies Everyday

My Flag Flies Everyday

A very dear friend asked for my opinion of Sarah Palin: this is what I told her. I worked in management for a mid-size company for thirty years. My knack for recognizing talented young people was credible. I was responsible for hiring, and recommending for hire, some of the most talented people in the company. The current President of the company is a man who I recommended we hire as a new grad engineer. I was also responsible for hiring the first woman engineer in the company. Sure, I hired some losers. Some of them were losers, and women too. My record, however was over .500. In the professional sports world a player who has a .500 record makes millions more than someone who does not. The talent I hired was usually young, and filled with energy, enthusiasm, and had the tools to succeed. They never let me down. I mentored them toward their goals, and in the process they helped me achieve the company goals.

From the first moment I heard Sarah Palin speak at the Republican National Convention, I saw her as a unique talent; a winner. I wrote about it in my post titled “Genious.” She affected me the same way the many young grads I hired during my career have affected me. She is a keeper, a problem solver, a go-getter, she is driven to succeed, she is goal oriented, she is self motivated, she is eloquent in her speeches, she will do the job. I think that much of her without ever having mentioned her practical experience of running governments. She has what it takes to run our country. She has much to learn, but she openly admits that. Most of what she has to learn is how to deal with a bunch of clowns in the media who don’t want to see her beat their candidate. I don’t think anyone who becomes president knows it all on the day they take office. Granted, being mayor of a town is nothing like being president, but being governor of a state is close. Think about the presidents who were governors before they became president. Bill Clinton is the first to come to mind, Jimmy Carter is another..

Many of my friends who are life long Republicans have told me they are voting for Obama. I ask them why? They give me two reasons: first, they are afraid of John Mc Cain’s age (see my post Write Me In), second, they don’t believe Sarah Palin is in over her head. Women especially, are very antagonistic and negative about her. I do not understand that, except that the women are being sexist. Is it possible for a woman to be sexist?

Women today are in the army, navy, marines, and the air force, they are lawyers, CEO’s, mothers, Senators, Congressmen, business owners. The current Secretary Of State is a woman. Women have done amazing things for the world, why is it that we can’t see Sarah Palin as Vice President?

I see Sarah Palin as extremely qualified, especially when I compare her to Obama, and she is eons more qualified than Joe Biden. If you don’t agree with me on that, look at her as the lesser of two evils.

Down Size Big Government

My Flag Flies Everyday

My Flag Flies Everyday

My cousin sent me an interesting article (shown below) in which the author, a republican turned democrat, writes why he will vote for BO. He makes some valid points regarding the drift of the Republican Party away from strict conservatism. He is correct in his claim that GWB forgot the philosophies of his party by increasing the size of the government. His new departments of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Act are two doozies. Both of them were knee jerk reactions on the part of our Congress and Senate to problems. My question is this, why does the population always look to Uncle to solve their problems? Uncle’s solutions are usually a disaster larger than any that FEMA is expected to address.  Bill Clinton’s Community Revitalization Act is another big government legacy that we are stuck with. That one caused the collapse of the banking system from which we will  most likely never recover. This author goes on to argue that the republicans need to get their “clocks cleaned.” He has two reasons; first because they had eight years to do the job and failed, and second,  the Bush policy to elevate the powers of the president. The author believes that “nothing short of defeat will put the GOP back on its limited government track…”

Although I agree with his reasons, I disagree with his logic to vote for a democrat to solve this problem. The cure will be worse than the disease. If BO wins, we will have four years of radical programs implemented by a socialist president and a socialist house.  I agree that a strict conservative republican party would be a shoo in after fours years of BO, but I disagree that any party could undo the evils that will transpire in the time under BO.

I have an issue with John McCain in that he has, at times, sold out his conservative principles during his thirty year career. He is one man in a group of five hundred and thirty five. He was one salmon swimming up river and hitting a dam. It is amazing that he has survived as long as he has. It is a testimony to his ablility to work with difficult people to make his agenda happen.

The author assumes that in four years, the house republicans will be transformed.  All of them will be honest, God fearing, monogomous men. All with the same staunch conservative philosophies. I believe this to be a bad assumption because it will take a miracle to find, and elect so many clean clear thinkers into office in so short a time.  For example, in the blue state of Illinois, Barack Obama became senator because the republican party could not find a single candidate to run against him. They imported a man from Maryland to fill the ballot. BO won because he didn’t have any competition.

I believe that John Mc Cain represents our one true hope to turn the country back to its conservative roots. He will have the ability to veto the really dumb things that the democrats will try to pull off. He will fend off the urge to build the government, and to put the country back into the hands of the people. His remaining years of life will be spent undoing the damage that has been done by the previous democratic regimes, and his party’s own GWB.

If we allow BO to take over, and further corrupt our conservative lives, the job presented to the next conservative candidate will be monumental. We need a conservative president now more than ever. We need to give John Mc Cain the opportunity to reshape and down size big government. The benefits of doing so will allow us to make our own private destiny.

Why the Republicans Must Lose

Nothing short of defeat will put the GOP back on its limited government track

Feed The Greed

Last week,  Sarah Palin took Joe Biden to task for telling Americans that it is “patriotic” to pay taxes. Good old bright-white tooth Joe gave an angry response about how unpatriotic is was for U.S. companies to be shirking their patriotic tax duty by sheltering in foreign countries. His tone of voice was such as to be in command. Well, he is in command, of his lack of business knowledge and simple economics.

My guess is that right now, all across this country, businesses, large and small, are strategizing on how to minimize taxes under a new socialist president. The stategic planners are dusting off “Plan B.” Many  times, “Plan B,” is a move to another country. It is the very heart of a business to maximize the amount of money they make. After all, anyone can buy a government bond and get a healthy one percent return on the investment. There is nothing more debilitating to a business than paying taxes. In fact, I find it dibilitating too. There is nothing like working your ass off  40-60 hours a week to leave a huge amount of your pay on the table for uncle.

The point that Joe Biden and Obama are missing, is the primary reason for companies moving off-shore; TAXES. The host country sees an opportunity for it’s citizens, while the evacuated country waves goodbye to jobs. Politicians like Biden and Obama, blame the move on a lack of patriotism. It is the “greed of big government” that causes profit making corporations to flee. Big government can never get enough to feed the dragon of socialistic give aways.

I worked for a man who built his fortune by sleeping, eating, and working his business seven days a week for fifty five years. He is in his eighties, and still working. When Ronald Reagan cut capital gains taxes in the eighties, our company went berserk with expansion. The owner couldn’t push us hard enough or fast enough to make investments in new products and markets. The company expanded. The number of people he employed increased from 1000 to 3000. Ronald Reagan didn’t create the jobs, hard working people with an incentive to invest created the jobs. Then came the Clinton years. Taxes increased. My efforts were spent shipping equipment to the far east. I traveled extensively, to train new people on how to make our products on our equipment. Our employment numbers in the states shrunk.

You answer this question, “Is it more patriotic to pay taxes to feed the greed of big government, or is it more patriotic to cut taxes to feed people with jobs?”
