How this Election Might Change a Sport

Americans love their guns. The Second Amendment guarantees our right to own a gun. The founders believed that we the people should keep arms to be able to overthrow a rotten government if needed. I’m not sure just how that would happen in today’s world because the local police can put down an insurrection in a New York minute. God forbid we ever got beyond that level and the Military came after us. The concept is great, but the execution of a revolution needs work.

Last week I received a meme from a friend who is a gun-toting NRA member and an avid hunter. A lot of guys I know love hunting and evacuate their homes during deer season to bag a buck. Here in Illinois the hunters must use shot guns. We are too populated a state to use a real gun for anything.  Nevertheless, there is a great number of hunters who trek the woods during late fall in search of their deer. For all the Bambi lovers out there, the deer population in Illinois during 2011 exceeded 700,000. Nation wide there are 1,500,000 car-deer crashes a year, and of these there are 150 fatalities. I don’t feel sorry for a Bambi killed by a bullet or arrow.

We face a serious threat to the loss of our gun rights. I’m afraid that if Obama gets a second term he will sign the United Nations Treaty banning guns. Basically, he will abdicate the sovereignty of America to the United Nations (If you think Congress is hopelessly deadlocked now, just imagine what will happen when the UN decides our fate.) Obama won’t care because he won’t be running for a third term. This treaty will forever change our right to go shoot a deer, but it won’t kill off our ingenuity, nor our will to go hunting. We will just do it another way.

The picture below is proof positive that American Ingenuity is alive and well.

Was the Grid a Campaign Promise or a Lie?

Yesterday, I raved about the Newsweek article titled “Hit the Road Barack.” In this article, Niall Ferguson points out that Obama broke a promise to build a modern electrical grid. Concurrently, I received the statement shown below from my electricity supplier. Note the amount of electricity being generated by various forms of fuel. Granted this distribution is from Illinois, but I believe it will be similar for all fifty states. In Illinois we burn coal to supply 45.6 % of our electricity. Our second largest fuel is Uranium 238 (Nuclear Power). Illinois has a heavy concentration of nuclear power, and has been a leader in this area since nuclear power came on the scene. There is a lake between Channahon and Morris, Illinois where spent fuel glows with an eerie blue light underwater.

So what did our president decide to do? He made good on a campaign promise to break the back of the coal industry in AMERICA. President Obama professes his home town is Chicago, Illinois, yet he threw the Illinois coal mining industry under the bus. There is enough coal under Illinois to provide the total energy demand of the USA for a hundred years. How large will the hole be that remains after removing a hundred years worth of coal? Certainly it will be large enough to throw the Chicago and State of Illinois Democrat machine in forever.

Think about this, where will you get half of your electricity when coal is gone? Will it be from nuclear? Not a chance. It takes ten years and a boat load of money to build a modern nuclear power plant. Will it be wind power? Look at the numbers below and tell me how many windmills can generate that much electricity. Illinois already sports way too many ugly windmills and I cannot imagine what the countryside will look like if we got half of our power from wind.

Will it be solar? Not in the Chicago area, our cloud cover from Lake Michigan makes the Chicago area one of the least effective solar power areas in the world.

Will it be from hydro-power? Not likely, since we don’t have waterfalls or raging rivers in our state.

Most likely, we will get it by converting coal plants to natural gas. The cost of converting that many coal-burning plants will be expensive. Oh yes, we will continue to burn coal, but it will be expensive. Face it, our electrical bills will rise faster than the deficit.  So, what has all this have to do with the new grid?

Fuel Distribution

When I first heard about a new electrical grid, something very robust and flexible came to mind. The grid would have to accommodate attacks from foreign powers without shutting down the entire country; the grid would work like the internet. The idea for a new grid comes up each time we have a blackout of major proportions.

After reading a bit about the new national grid I have learned that the need is not driven by national security at all. It is President Obama’s Green Energy Policy driving the need. When the USA finally achieves the goal of replacing hydrocarbon fuels with sustainable green energy like wind, solar, geothermal, and hydro a very flexible grid is needed to accommodate energy feeds from all these sources. On a windy day, when every windmill is running at peak, the new grid will feed the electricity all over the country. In the daytime, the solar panels will kick in, and feed the need. At night, when there is no solar, and very little wind, the grid would allow feeds from generating plants.

Can you imagine how many windmills and solar panels it will take to feed our electrical appetites?  I see every house in America roofed in solar panels, with the siding also generating electricity. Our lawns will be silver with solar panels. Each house will have a huge battery in  the basement to store excess energy for power on cloudy, windless days. We will need a degree in electrical management to run our in-home electrical needs like turning on light bulbs. What we don’t use will feed into the new flexible energy grid.  I almost forgot, windmills will top the same solar clad home.

I’ve said enough to show that the green energy thing is a giant wet dream being fed to the Sheeple of America for making the Green Energy lobby in Washington very happy. When every public building and house in America sports a windmill or two the new national power grid might become a reality. The real reason for the green energy policy is to pave the way for the Cap and Trade business of paying fines for exceeding CO2 emissions. The fines will go into an International Carbon Bank led by insider bureaucrats for distribution to countries who do not generate CO2. Of course the bureaucrats will feed their pockets with the free flow of carbon money coming in.

Who ever fed President Obama these ideas has used mind altering substances, and is having grandiose Dreams From Obama’s Father. Perhaps in one-hundred years the green energy thing will become a workable reality, but now it is a huge lie being forced on us as an excuse to steal  our money.

Green Energy for the White House

Busted

A few weeks ago Peggy and I were driving home from Santa Fé, New Mexico. We passed through Oklahoma on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. I am totally familiar with toll roads and auto payment lanes, but the signage in Oklahoma confused me. I saw a sign saying PIKEPASS and decided yep I want to go on the Pike. I blasted past the CASH exit at seventy when I realized my I-PASS wasn’t going to work. Had I made a sharp right turn across three lanes in a flash, I might have made it into the pay lane. Oops, Oh Well.

By the time I arrived home a week later, a letter waited for me from PIKEPASS. They had my complete name and address, the exact date, and time of the violation documented in a very nicely and politely written letter of reprimand.

I called them this morning to ask what the toll charge was. I gave them the Transaction Number and a nice voice asked, “is it a white Toyota Avalon?” She very politely forgave the charge. I asked the nice young lady what technology they used to catch my violation. She answered, “a camera took a picture of your rear license plate as you went through.”

I commended her on Oklahoma’s speed and efficiency in apprehending a violator. I said if this happened in Illinois, I wouldn’t get a letter for ten years. She laughed politely. I commented that I didn’t want to take the chance of getting a ticket on my next trip through and have the cuffs thrown on me for having a moving violation on record. She assured me that wouldn’t happen.

The reason I am relating this incident is that Big Brother is watching us with capabilities that are unbelievable.

Doesn’t it make you wonder what else Big Brother does to creep into our private lives?

Dear Senator Durban

Prestwick Area Garden Club Budget

Dear Senator Durbin:

Please take note of the above graphic. It is a budget. It is by a group of women who never worked a day in their lives (stay at home mom’s).  I feel you need to see this because it has been so long since you and your fellow Senators have looked at a budget, and worse yet since you approved one.  It is not a hard thing to do, one must look at income, and limit spending to equal the income. It really is that simple. Now, let me see you try that. Is it so hard for you and your elitist fellows to get simple concepts into your cranium’s overly crammed with political rhetoric?

Your loyal over taxed Illinois citizen,

Grumpa Joe

Are You Kidding Me?

Last night Peggy and I attended a Tea Party meeting and heard some wonderful speakers. Among them were two candidates for Congress in new districts that stretch from Chicago to Frankfort. Don Peloquin (R- Blue Island) is going against Bobby Rush, and Brian Woodward (R- Kankakee) is up  against Jesse Jackson Jr.  Just how did Jesse Jr. escape prosecution when Blagojevich didn’t is not clear. Better yet, how did conservative Will County become attached to Cook County and Chicago? We are thirty five miles southwest of the heart of Chicago, and twenty miles from the closest border of the city. When Liberals want to use the Constitution to their advantage they do, and after the 2010 Census they redistricted to their advantage in order to destroy the Republicans in WIll County. When liberals don’t believe in the Constitution like the First and Second Amendments they trash the document as useless paper written by a bunch of old guys who talked funny. Both candidates face a tough challenge against a strong democrat machine convinced they are infallible, and  thus cannot be defeated.

Speaker Judy Ogalla gave insight into the proposed third airport for Chicago. She is a long-standing member of STAND (Shut This Airport Nightmare Down). She and her group have battled the state to keep family farms from unlawful takeover  by Illinois. Did I just say the State is unlawful? How could that possibly be? Ask George Ryan former governor. You may contact George in prison. The Illinois Department of Transportation regularly threatens residents with eminent domain when the property in question has never been declared necessary for an airport, or anything for that matter. In the meantime, the out of money State continues to pour borrowed money into an unapproved project. WHY? Could it be that Jesse Jackson Jr. is flexing his muscle to get votes, or is he out to make a fast buck?

During the break, I spoke to Tuck Marshall a former candidate for Township Board. He is also a certified firearms trainer. I asked him if he had any classes coming up, because I now had my FOID (Firearm Owners Identification) and want to take the next step. Before I could say another word, he asked if Peggy had a FOID? Why would she need one, she will not even come into the same room with a gun? The Answer: If I leave home and she is in the house alone with a firearm, and she is not registered she commits a felony. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You mean the State of Illinois will put cuffs on a little old lady for living in a house with a firearm that she hasn’t even got a clue about where it is kept? Yep.

I wonder how many of the murderers in Illinois had a FOID and a spouse who did too? Illinois is 90% democrat and democrats like to tell you how to live.

Stupid is as stupid does, It is the Progressive way.
