Put Another Log on the Fire

One thing a Boy Scout learns early is how to start a fire. Fire is essential to survival. Since POTUS has never been a Boy Scout he needs to learn the best way to make a roaring fire is not by striking a match to a big tree. A good Scout starts his match to dry fine tinder, moves up by adding twigs, and then larger sticks, eventually, when the flames are hot and strong, he adds a moderate size chunk of log. The US economy is now at a stage of a small fire. It is barely hanging on and it needs incentivizes to grow stronger, but not with a honking huge log.

The heart of our economy is small business. It needs to be nurtured and fed sales in a continuous stream without interruption. If business has its tinder taken away in the form of taxation or new regulatory costs there is not enough left to feed the fire and make it grow. The overall effect of a huge stimulus at this point would certainly be to squash any business activity with inflationary costs. My advisor tells me that there is no inflation, and I ask him if he has bought milk or gas lately? Sure, electronics are not rising in price, but the stuff of everyday life is rising very fast.

Do not get your votes at my expense Mr. President, get my approval by doing something right for the country, RESIGN!

Lies, Lies, and More Lies

I tried to share the list of lies Obama has told us but could not do it. The best I can do is share the link to the list.

Hunger Games the Movie

I talked my friend and his wife into going to see Hunger Games with us. At the end, as we left the theater, I asked “how did you like it?’

“It glued me to the seat, but I didn’t like what it was.”

I knew exactly what he meant. This is a movie about kids killing kids. Do we really want that message, and image being fed into the brains of our teenagers? The fact is that teens across America have flocked to see this film. They relate to the heroine and her friend. My own granddaughters have seen the film twice. A cult grows around this film. The eighty year old man who owns the farm where filming took place is selling because strangers are driving across his property and stopping to visit the buildings used in District Twelve scenes. This is not normal folks.

The country of Panem covers most of North America and has divided it into twelve districts. The richest and the most political is District One. Each successive district after is somewhat poorer and less influential. District Twelve is the poorest and the people live in desperation.

A seventy-four years earlier there was a revolt squashed by the government. As punishment, they created the Hunger Games. Each district must send two tributes to the games for sacrifice.

What is evil in this film is the government, and its totalitarian leader. The President believes he must show that he and his government are so strong they can impose their will upon the people. Henceforth, he commands each District to send Tributes to the games. The Tributes are payment for the revolt that occurred seventy-four years ago.

Last week, I posted about Hunger Games the book. Today, I am posting about the movie. It is great! Although I hate the concept of savagery being promoted, the story is nonetheless great. It is a great depiction of what happens when the government breaks the will of the people. The actors are totally believable, and the story follows the book almost exactly. I had difficulty picking up changes introduced by the director to keep all the critical elements of the story in place, and  I only noticed two incidents that were out-of-sequence. Otherwise the movie tells the story accurately. There is so little difference between the two, one could skip one or the other. I happen to like to do both; read the book and see the film.

The film is long because it does pay so much attention to the story, yet time flies by quickly. Before we knew it the end came and we felt it was too soon. The last chapters of the book dealing with the victory celebrations, and revelations of unrest in the Districts were omitted.

As adults we saw elements of our own government creeping into this scenario, and felt the incremental losses of our personal liberty pointing us toward Panem. That may also be what the youngsters see. God love them if that is it, because then there is hope for the USA.

Cut 1.5 Trillion From Federal Budget in Ten Minutes

My Flag Flies Every Day

Watch this video for a very brief and concise plan to cut Federal Spending by 1.5 trillion in ten years.. This task took the 535 several weeks to decide they could not do it. Amazingly, not  a single social program was touched. So what is our problem? Maybe the 535 should be impeached for failure to do the job.

CINO, Conservative In Name Only

Today, I began my war against the terror organization known as Bull Thistle. As I patiently applied toxins to foliage with a brush to keep overspray from killing innocent victims, it finally occurred to me, gardens are naturally conservative. The natural law rules and plants are genetically programmed to win any affront to upset the balance. On the flip side, gardeners are the far left liberals. We constantly try to force our will upon Nature and its horticultural specimens to form a more perfect society. Gardeners are racist too. We chose to believe that some specimens are more desirable than others, and therefore, the undesirables are definitely open to annihilation.

When will we liberal gardeners learn that the order of Nature will persevere?  When will gardeners stop the foolishness of imposing their idea of what is beautiful and morally correct upon nature? Anyone who gardens knows that a beautiful society of plantdom has to be carefully controlled. Unwanted specimens are culled to keep the vision beautiful. If the maintenance slows or if it stops, the vision automatically reverts to the natural order of things. In some cases it reverts to something that is less than natural, because the gardener brought in specimens from outside his zone of influence to fill the lack of diversity. Many times the imports are without predators and thrive within the vision to overtake the locals.

So here I am, a boneheaded Conservative trying to impose my will upon the 2012 Monet Vision, in order to create a Utopian society of horticultural matter in an environment that repels my efforts to create heaven on earth.
