Americans are up to their neck in computer technology, but we are drifting backwards. One would think that voting has been figured out after so many years of doing it. Between Federal, State, and Local voting for 244 years we have probably voted 122 times. In my state, we must register to vote. It was a painless process when I did it, and today it is even more painless. The bottom line is that we are required to produce a signature which is kept on file by the County Clerk and when we vote we must sign again. Today’s signature is compared to the one on file. In order to get that far I had to produce a birth certificate to prove my citizenship. Those of foreign birth had to produce Naturalization papers. One of the new ways to register is to answer yes to the question “would you like to register to vote?” when applying or renewing your driver’s license. Citizenship is assumed during that process. In my mind this is an avenue for corruption. Since no proof is needed to renew your driver’s license it is up to the individual to be honest about citizenship. Since the Muslim attack on New York in 2001 the Department of Homeland security has tightened the rules a bit, but not for voting, for traveling. A person’s driver’s license is now accepted as proof of identity. The driver’s license has to be a Real ID license. To get a Real ID one must show a birth certificate, or passport, and proofs of residency. But one can still get his license renewed without making it a Real ID. He can then answer the question “do you want to register to vote?” Regardless, In Illinois one has to be registered to vote, but he can do it at the polling place on election day. I’m not sure what documentation one must bring to do that.

So why are we going backwards in the process? Well, we have added too many ways to vote. Number one is to show up at the polling place, number two, if you are out of town you may request an absentee ballot, number three, you may vote early at designated polling places within you precinct, and finally, we can now vote by mail. Voting by mail means you get a ballot in the mail, mark it and send it back in the mail. What is questionable is who gets a ballot? Often I receive multiple requests for questionnaires through the mail. Most likely because I am on several mailing lists. How will they control that if the sender does not know you, does not know if you are a resident of the state, or if you are qualified to vote. My dog could get a ballot and I could help him mark it and return it. The Board of Elections will have absolutely no knowledge of whether it is a valid ballot or not. A lot of other questions arise also. What do they do with ballots that are past the postmark requirement? What do they do with multiple votes from the same individual? How will they know that I have not used a mail in ballot for myself, my first wife, and my second wife, mother, father, my kids, my friends etc?

Too many times I have heard of a precinct reporting late and turning the election result because someone found a box of uncounted ballots in the trunk of his car. Which election judge would not remember he had ballots in his car on election day? With the mail in ballots, it will be too easy to manufacture votes behind the scenes to turn results.

The technology sector wants to modernize voting by using computers. Many experiments have been tried only to learn that computers can be rigged to vote the opposite, to mis-count or to not count. In other words they are only as honest as the people managing them.

I am certain that counting votes has been a problem since the very first election, and that is why each precinct has to certify that they are reporting an honest count, and the county does the same, and finally, the state certifies the count in the National election. With all these certifications there is less opportunity for fraud, yet it still occurs.

The number of ways to cheat on an election are endless, and the arguments against voter fraud are always beaten back statistically arguing that with so many votes to count, it would have to be massive to be effective. I’ve only heard the argument that even if fraud existed it would be in such a minute number that it wouldn’t affect the outcome. What these arguers don’t take into account is that if there are enough different ways to cheat, and all of them are used, that collectively it can matter.

In this moderne world we have become accustomed to knowing the outcomes of elections on the same day as the vote. In order to do that all votes have to be counted after the polls close. What will happen if the votes from the military arrive from battlefields late? What about mail in ballots that arrive past the postmark date? How much time is allowed for the mail to arrive and is there any grace for excusable lateness? Given all these variables, when will we know what the final count is? If an election is won by a landslide, there is no need to wait for all the counts to come in, however, if the election is close like it has been for the past twenty years, all lost ballots must be found and included. There is a good chance that we will not know the outcome of any future election for weeks after the election.

Given that the winner is not known what happens to the country and its administration? The new winner can not be forming his government until the outcome is known. If that candidate does form a new government and finally winds up losing what has been achieved? Thankfully, the Constitution dictates the new president be sworn into office on a specified date, and the count has to be certified by then which gives us fifteen weeks to straighten the mess out.

What ever the problems it is our constitutional right to vote. Voting is the one thing that allows us to make a difference in how the country is run. You can write letters to Congressmen, and Senators and even the President, but they don’t mean as much as your vote, so vote for the candidate you think will do what is right for our country. Voting is the one thing we can do as citizens to change the way things work in Washington.

Will I Ever See the Inside of Church Again?

Why do I need to make a reservation to visit the Lord? He was never that busy before to not let me in. This time, however, it is not because He is busy, it is because government thinks it is safer to stay away from Church. Safer? Since when did visiting with God depend on my safety? I would rather place myself in harms way than to avoid the Almighty. Dying may not be so bad after all. Isn’t that the goal of life is to die? Dying gets us to the pearly gates, it may not get us in, but at least we may get to see the gates. Who knows perhaps I’d get a sneek peek at God Himself when the gate opens for someone to enter?

Religion is not something I normally discuss out loud and never in public. Unlike politics, which I shoot myself in the foot with all the time. Politics is different than religion, thank God for that. It would be nice, though if politicians practiced their faith more when running for office. I too often get the feeling that I am supposed to forgive all the lies and deceit spewed by politicians as political rhetoric. Somehow lies become allowed when speaking politically. I would really like politicians to tell me their personal definition of a lie.

One of the most common arguments comes from taking a statement out of context and labeling it a lie. For instance. Back in January, he said the Chinese COVID-19 Virus is harmless.” three months later after science has proved that COVID-19 is deadly, we claim the speaker told a lie. Duh! At the time he said it he based his statement on the scientific evidence of the day. It wasn’t a lie it was a statement that has been proven wrong by time. Yet, I detect false claims of lies almost daily on the news.

Polls are another form of lie. Yesterday I reported counting yard signs along the highway in Wisconsin and took an impromptu poll. I reported that Biden was ahead of Trump in Wisconsin. Did my poll really prove that? No. Polls need data, lots of data that can be statistically calculated with some degree of certainty that the prediction is correct. I venture to say that six yards signs on a short piece of highway is not statistically accurate. When I worked as an engineer, I was always placed in a situation where I needed to come up with answers immediately. Most times I was trying to determine if a new design was better, stronger, etc. than the standard. With the time I had to do the work I used a method I had developed to make the assessment. Years later After taking a course in statistics I learned that my method was one of pure guesstimating. I had a fifty fifty chance of making an accurate choice between designs. Now, when I hear reports stating that a poll shows one candidate ahead of another I laugh and dismiss it completely. The trouble is that average citizens do not look at the statistical relevancy of a poll, they merely remember the result they hear reported. To me that report constitutes a lie, but the result is touted as the truth.

When I look at candidates, I try to assess them relative to past performance. If it is a new candidate who never had a political life before, it is harder, but I then look at the candidates character and his record in his current job. If the candidate has been in office before I look at his promises and measure them against his results. Did he keep his promises. Did I believe the promises he made were in alignment with my own politics? If he kept his promises then I would be prone to vote for him. If he made promises, but absolutely no effort to fulfill them I will not vote for him, he is liar using political rhetoric only to gain my vote.

The one thing I had against Obama was his promise to “fundamentally change America.”

“Into what?” I asked, Obama never really answered that but during the course of the campaign he let out little hints that he was heading the country toward Communism. One particular hint came during a discourse with Joe the Plumber at a rally.

Another political scheme is to use the free press as your personal propaganda machine. It was no secret that the Democrats control the political message. The lazy free press buys the lies they are fed hook line and sinker and never challenge any of them. To this day, the free press that the Founder’s said was necessary to keep politicians honest has chosen to become an integral part of the machine. They constantly manufacture news by manipulating videos, photos, and interviews to lead people to their way of thinking. All of it is a giant lie. It is hard to understand which news organizations meet the Founder’s concept of reporting fairly.

My choices for political office all boil down to whose message and reporting do I trust the most. Of course that comes only after I chose the candidate that most closely agrees with my own political ideology.

Compare Trump to Biden

I haven’t paid much attention to either candidate yet, but when I do see something it resonates with me. Since I am a heavy Trump fan whenever I see a Biden commercial I listen carefully to determine how the two candidates differ.

Yesterday, I listened to Biden and his plan for fighting COVID-19. It is the same as Trump’s word for word. I think he was reading from the Centers for Disease Control website, wear a mask, social distance, don’t go out if you feel sick etc. Where Biden does deviate heavily from Trump is on taxes. Biden will certainly raise our taxes to the point we will be crying uncle. It is my opinion that the Federal Government is way too large and the currently over-spent budget of Trillions is a hundred times larger than it needs to be. When will we as Americans learn to fend for our selves? Why do we believe that Uncle can take care of us better than we can?

Both candidates are old and can experience a health problem at any second. If they do have a problem, which Vice Presidential candidate has the best chance of running the country? My confidence is in Mike Pence. He has shown considerable leadership as a former governor and as VP. His performance as leader of the COVID-19 Task Force has been commendable. He clearly has more experience in getting things done than does Kamala Harris.

More scary to me is that if Biden has a problem and continues to lead who will really be calling the shots behind the scenes? Another old guy like Bernie? Or worse yet some political contributor who will remain invisible to the rest of us.

I am amazed at how little experience a presidential candidate needs to have in order to run the world’s strongest country with so much money to control. Other than popularity and some organizational skill to get a political campaign up and running there is little else to help decide which candidate is the best. Since Trump now has almost four years of performance behind him he has shown me that he is a capable leader in both domestic and world affairs.

And that is all I want to say about that.

Tens Seconds to Puke

Last night I watched ten seconds of the Democratic National Convention. I never thought I would live to see the day that a professed communist addresses the nation on live tv on a daily basis. Read the history of Bernie Sanders and tell me if I am wrong. This guy has a screw loose if he really believe that Socialism = Communism is right for the world. The only people who love Communism are the leaders who are in charge. They love tending slaves which is what all the other people in the population are, and they are the slave masters wielding the bull whip to keep us in order.

I would really like to see what our country would be like if all the news media was totally unbiased and not leading the charge toward socialism. Maybe, just maybe we would be more civilized and orderly.

The First Amendment right to free speech puts the media at an advantage when it comes to spreading harm. They are allowed to write things that are totally wrong and hurtful without any consequence. The more sensational their message the more money they make. When it comes to making money the socialist news-media becomes capitalist, and hides behind the First Amendment.

And that is all I want to say on that.

Win At All Costs

Have you ever hired a lawyer to represent you with the idea that you will lose? If you have you are not normal. We hire lawyers to win. We want to stay out of jail, we want to get the judgement in our favor, but we never hire him to lose. Yet, half of all people who hire lawyers lose, and the other half wins. Very seldom is there a compromise settlement. Settlements appear when a lawyer who is clearly losing his case argues for a compromise which in his mind is a win for you, as in ten years in jail versus life in prison.

Lawyers are trained to win. They learn to debate whether their client is on the wrong side or not. They argue in your behalf even when they know you are guilty as sin. Even though we know this we continue to hire lawyers to represent us in government. Hiring of course is our vote. We argue that lawyers know the law therefore they must be in charge of writing new ones and upholding the existing ones. We also know that there is always the conflict between good and evil, black and white, north vs south. From the very beginning our government has evolved into two factions based on political ideology, liberal, and conservative. Most of the people who wrote our constitution and the Declaration of Independence were trained in law.

Note: The shape of Illinois is Wisconsin.

In the beginning of our country, before we were a nation we were ruled by a single person called king. It was his way or the highway. Needless to say that many of the people who lived in North America at the time of our revolution still pledged allegiance to the king and probably continued that allegiance after the separation from England.

I am not knowledgeable in history well enough to say for certain that some of our new members of congress may have still carried some allegiance to the king. For the sake of argument I venture to guess that some did. What these people did was to poison the congress with opposing ideas and attitudes. The result was an evolution towards the two ideologies which dominate out political system to this day. We have settled on two ideologies one liberal (Democrat) and one conservative (Republican). As I stated above they were trained in law, and in debate and in winning.

In the beginning there was more legitimate compromise between groups. Our system seemed to be working, but somewhere along the way (About early 1900) a new faction began introducing radical ideas. The faction was a split from the democrats and proposed ideas and laws that imposed far more conflict than the normal average democrats. They liked to call themselves progressives.

At about the same time that Woodrow Wilson was promoting progressivism in America Carl Marx was pushing communism in Europe. Marx had a student named Lenin, and these two were not content to allow their ideas to evolve slowly into the hearts and minds of the people. Instead they introduced them with revolution, convert or die. We in America had a hint of what was coming with the progressive movement, but we didn’t believe in introducing it aggressively with revolution. We were content to allow the communists in America to promote their foul ideas under their First Amendment rights to free speech. Gradually, these communist voices grew and infiltrated organizations throughout America. Most notably they overtook our institutions of learning. With young minds within their command they have been able to poison the minds of our youth with ideas of revolution and communism.

Most of these revolutionaries are democrat and they have begun spreading their leftist ideas into government. Combine the concept of electing lawyers as our Representatives and Senators along with their leftist mindset received from college we have a system that is causing internal conflict and rioting in the streets all in the name of destroying America.

Add into this mix a group of very, very rich people like George Soros, and liberal think tanks who fund hundreds of very democratic sounding organizations that are in the business of fomenting radical change. Black Lives Matter, and ANTIFA are two that come to mind. These groups are basically communist in their ideology, but have been named to sound like something else. For instance Black Lives Matter does not do anything to effect change in the black neighborhoods where hundreds of black people are being shot and killed weekly by other black people. Why do they instead concentrate on blacks who have been killed by white police? Because it makes for better TV and that spreads the message of their revolution faster and further than saving black lives in the black community.

The newest movement is the one to defund police departments. This one is so crazy radical that it is hard to believe these people have brains. Yet, there is at least one city where they have begun to dismantle the police department to make them into something more “touchy-feely and please don’t steal, riot, or kill people it is not nice” kind of force. While the criminal will continue to use weapons without flinching, cause blood to flow, and the new cops will have to hold the perp by the hand until a highly paid psychologist arrives on the scene to talk the criminal down.

In conclusion, all I want to point out is that the reason we have all of these problems in America today is because we elect too many lawyers into office. They don’t know how to lose or to compromise a real solution that makes both sides happy. They are trained to WIN not to SOLVE problems.
