Here is some interesting stuff for all old timers out there. If you are not on Facebook or Twitter you are a dinosaur.

Although I am on both, I do not know yet how to use these media venues to my advantage. It’ll become my challenge to learn and conquer before I expire.

A great lesson on how much the US Government spends with advice on what to do about it. This brief video by Blaise Ingoglia of Government Gone Wild is well done, concise, and informative.

Connor’s Chair

I’m not in the habit of pleading for money on this BLOG, but a special need has come up. My Lions Club is currently involved with a fund raising project to aid a young man born with a list of  problems that have made his life very difficult. Have you ever heard of any of the following: arthrogryposis, prune belly syndrome, bilateral hydronephrosis, scoliosis and club feet? Of these five conditions I am only familiar with the last two. I had to do research on the others to find out what they are. After learning, I thank God that none of my kids or grandkids have any of these afflictions.

The young man’s name is Connor, he is eighteen years old and has led a life vastly different from the rest of us. Yet, somehow he continues to thrive. To me, that is a testament to a loving family. Connor graduated from Lincoln Way North High School last year even though he needed a special motorized wheelchair, and a computer to help him speak. Where there is a will, there is a way, and Connor found it.

So why is my Lions Club involved? Connor’s special chair has broken down and he is a man without mobility. The cost of repairs is great and the time between breakdowns is short. The Frankfort Lions are assisting a group organized to raise money to buy a new chair at  a cost of $38,000.00. The group is Have a Heart for Connor.

Here are some of the ways you can help:

1. Donate online through the Frankfort Lions Club website.

2. Attend the Summit Hill Talent Show on January 27, 2012. $5 to enter 7p.m.

Political Grace Before Dinner

The Thanksgiving holiday is over, and I made it without a mental breakdown. Grandma Peggy and I entertained the kids and the components of their families that could make it. The highlight of my day was saying Grace.

I went off the deep end and veered into the political arena, but recovered quickly. I thanked God for the current President who is  teaching us how fragile our liberty is. We have lost liberties throughout his tenure. One of the worst is the government take-over and ultimate ownership of two car companies, and some banks too. How about the President firing the CEO of a major car company? The entire Board of Directors at GM lost their rights on that one. The Constitution does not cover that detail anywhere, not even between the lines. I recently re-financed my mortgage and had to sign several documents pertaining to the Department of Homeland Security. A pure waste of paper, and probably the time of several bureaucrats hired to review the document; for what?  I’m sure I could put together a pretty good conspiracy, and pull it off before anyone at Homeland Security can detect a problem by the review of those documents.

Anyway, after my political Grace, I got down to thanking God for the food on our table and editorialized the fact of how lucky we were to have food at all because I had personally delivered food to a family in need just a few days earlier. They were desperate and very grateful to have that which I delivered. Finally, I got to:

Bless us oh Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord. Amen

The food on our table:

Turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, lasagna, tossed salad, cucumber salad, a relish tray, wine, and desert too: Cherry pie, apple pie, brownies, cinnamon cookies, a giant chocolate chip cookie, ice cream cake, and more.

No, we didn’t have cranberry sauce or pumpkin pie.

Desperately In Search of Green

When is it coming? The green of Spring, when will it arrive? It’s been gone for five months already, will I ever see green again? Oh how I long to see the color green. Soon, it will be Saint Patrick’s Day, then I will see green. That is not the same as green grass and new leaves on trees. That is the green I long to see again.

Today, I searched for signs of green. I found  some hints, but the most I found was brown; ugly, tired brown. Most of it is falling to the ground. Brown too, waits patiently for fresh green shoots to poke up between the tired stems of past.

I look up to see empty trees longing for life to return. Alas! There are some hints I spy in the fragile tips of grey and brown. Tiny little buds swell with the juice of life returning from Mother Earth. Still grey and brown, but soon to be shoots that unfold into beautiful glorious green leaves. Green leaves that will hide the nests of birds among flexible stems teeming with sap.

Oh! How I desperately need to see green.
