A Fall Driving Trip

I am tired, and wanting to eat the ass out of a dead skunk, but I made it to the base of the Mackinaw bridge which is Mackinaw City. I sit with the laptop on my lap hoping to make some sense out of all the ideas that rolled through my mind while driving. Should I speak to all the TRUMP/Vance signs I saw? Yes, why not? These weren’t little yards signs like I stick into my lawn, they were semi-trailer sized signs. This surprises me because Michigan is a blue state. As I drove further north there began to be some equally large Harris-Walz signs. That’s more like the Michigan I know. The whole time my mind kept telling me that the country is going to go crazy like they did with Obama. They will vote for Kamala without knowing what she stands for, and later regret it after she has snuck a bunch of laws and policies into place that will kill the United States that we know.

I’d rather change the subject and talk about how much this part of the country has changed since I was last here.

Number one, I met an immigrant working at our hotel who was a nice black man. The thing I found strange is that over the years I have traveled and stayed in hotels, I have never once seen a male housekeeper. They have always been women.

Number two, the tiny coastal towns that create the uniqueness of the upper lower peninsula have grown substantially. A sign would appear along the roadside announcing the city limits of the town. Yet, I drove another ten minutes before reaching the part that I remember.

Number three, I used a credit card on a parking meter in one of these quaint littles towns which has grown into a city. Except for the fact that the meter screen was not very visible in daylight, it was sexy. We crossed the street and I looked back at my car to see the meter blinking a green light while the meter in the unoccupied spot in front of mine was blinking red. No doubt these lights were meant as an alert to the police who patrolled the streets looking for expired meters to write a ticket.

Number four, US 31 is still a two lane highway. I was literally scared to death to be driving against traffic at the posted speeds. This same road has miles of two lane, two lanes with an occasional extra passing lane, four lanes, and four lanes with limited access. The scariest part is driving on two lanes head on toward a semi hugging the line. It must be my age because it never bothered me before.

Number five, Mackinaw city is not much larger than it was forty years ago. It plays a single function, that is to give temporary shelter to tourists like me who come to visit Mackinaw Island. The total permanent population is around seven hundred, but between July and August the number is in the thousands. The young man who checked me in lives in Florida when he is not checking people in at the desk of the American Boutique Inn in Mackinaw City.

Number six, the Mackinaw Bridge still impresses me after all these years. I was about eight or ten years old when it was built, and it has saved a ton of money for travelers crossing from lower Michigan to Upper Michigan. I once rode over it on my bicycle while on the Shoreline Bike Tour. We actually had a safety meeting before crossing. The expansion joints between sections of the bridge can swallow a bike tire and cause the rider to take a header into the steel grate driving surface. The ride organizers actually placed sheets of plywood over the joints to make them safer. The ride across still gives me the heebie jeebies when I think about being four hundred feet above the water at its peak.

Number seven, it is a few days into Fall, and the trees are just beginning to turn color. We have had cloudy days with occasional showers. The temperature is dropping into the fifties at night, which by itself is not too cold. When you add a brisk wind coming from the lake the wind chill makes it miserable.

Number eight, the season for tourists is two weeks from being over. Businesses will board up and close. Many will return to their winter businesses in Florida. Others will return home where ever that may be.

Number nine, Mackinaw Island does not allow automobiles or trucks. All travel on the island is on foot, bicycle, or a horse drawn carriage. The horses are ferried onto the island in Spring and ferried to their home farms in the Upper Peninsula in the Fall. The largest hotel is the Grand Hotel, an all wooden structure well over a hundred years old. The Grand employs contract workers from Haiti, or the Dominican Republic. Within the next two weeks they will all be headed home until the next season.

Number ten, the last stop on this venture will be Pictured Rocks National Seashore. If it rains, the stop is canceled until a sunny day. In order to see the full beauty of the colors in the rocks requires bright sunlight.

One reason for taking this driving trip is to test my endurance for even longer trips. At this point, I am inclined to bite the bullet and take a plane on longer trips.

Here I Go Again

I have heard rumors to the effect that Dearborn Michigan was highly Muslim populated. In fact, I have seen news reports to support my belief. Here is another person’s observation of just how bad the situation has become.

How would you feel if you drove into a town here in the United States and found that many of the street signs were in Arabic only with no English wording? Then you look around and discover that many of the signs on businesses were also in Arabic.
Not possible you say? Think again! Welcome to Dearborn, Michigan.

Steve Tarani, author and speaker recounts what he saw when he rode with a member of the Detroit Metro SWAT Police as they drove around Detroit and into Dearborn:

“The street signs suddenly went from English to Arabic. There wasn’t a single English word on any shop or any street sign. And in fact, these little yellow signs were posted all along the edges. Jeremy said to me, ‘this is it. We don’t go past this line.’ And I said to Jeremy, ‘what do you mean? You guys are Detroit Metro. You’re the SWAT team. You can go anywhere you want. What if you get a call over there?’ He said ‘this is it, it’s hazardous for our team if we go past this line.'”

“I have seen it with my own eyes, witnessed it in the backseat of a car and it is for real. No-go zones exist in the United States.”
“Dearborn, Michigan is not the only place that these settlements exist. They are spread out over the country in various cities. There’s an estimate of over 5,000 known terrorist cells in the United States. However our most persistent and significant threat, right now, to us here today this morning, is the homegrown violent extremists.”

Some people try to discount Tarani’s account but I’ve seen too many reports that have come out of Dearborn that would tend to support his account of the Muslim takeover of the American city. Christians have been only attacked by Muslims without prosecution. They’ve also been told to stay away from the city’s Islamic festival and even banned from talking to people on the public streets outside the festival

The Muslim influence is so strong in Dearborn that the high schools hold girls only proms because Muslim girls are not allowed to socialize or dance with boys. These proms are religious based and no one has said anything about a violation of church and state or tried to stop them. Christian students are banned from having Christmas parties, prayer meetings or Baccalaureate services, but Muslims are allowed to pray in school and hold Islamic proms. You have to ask why organizations like the ACLU, American Atheists, Freedom From Religion Foundation and Americans United for Separation of Church and State remain silent about what is happening in Dearborn schools.

Murfreesboro, Tennessee is fast becoming a second Muslim controlled city like Dearborn and there are others on the way. I have friends in the United Kingdom who have told me of how Muslims have taken over entire cities and areas in their country. What they tell me is that it all started with cities like Dearborn and Murfreesboro and just continues to spread. One of my friends compared Islam in England to a cancer that continues to spread and contaminate everything it encounters. In time it will spread to the point that the country dies from it and becomes the home of a religion that teaches hate, bloodshed and sharia law. Like a cancer, the only way to save the nation is to stop the spread of the religion of terrorism. Then he told me that in our modern sophisticated world full of freedoms and rights that it’s impossible to stop the spread of Islam without igniting a worldwide religious war.

Now realize that Barack Hussein Obama has been actively inviting Muslims to come to the US. He is also advocating opening our doors to up to 7 million Syrian Muslim refugees and there is no telling how many terrorists ware hiding among those 7 million. That would be like trying to cure a patient by injecting him with massive doses of cancer cells.

I have to honestly say that the future of America is not looking very bright and to be honest, I don’t know what to do to change it other than make others aware of it and encourage everyone to get on their knees and pray for the Christian revival of America.

Happy Father’s Day to all. The photo above is of my Dad with my sister and me. This photo was taken on a Sunday. How do I know? Dad always dressed up on Sunday to go to mass. He stayed dressed for the day. During the week, he wore blue work shirts and blue work pants. Most days he looked like he worked in a coal mine. He came to America from a small town in Hungary. His half-sister Anna and her husband sponsored him. He arrived at Ellis Island at age seventeen with but a few coins in his pocket. Somehow he found his way to Burnside in Chicago. There, he stayed at a local boarding house until my Great Uncle got him a job at the Illinois Central Rail shops on 95th and Cottage grove Avenue. His job involved doing repair on the brakes of rail cars. When he reached sixty-five years he retired from the same job.

Dad was a maniac for hard work. His idea of retirement fun was to cut tall grass with a scythe on his farm in Michigan. He created a park with a baseball field for his grandkids. We spent many weekends visiting and there was always a baseball tournament going on the entire weekend.

Dad was an excellent father and a superb role model for me, my brother, and Sis.

Father Figure. What’s That?

My opinion about why Mitt Romney is not liked by many people is that he represents a Father Figure to America. That is a concept  lost  in America because of the too many single parent families. We have set up a welfare system to make a complete family unit a negative. Why would a woman who has learned to make a good living off the system by having babies want a no good shiftless husband lying around the house? All he does is add another plate at the table, and full-grown men eat more than kids.

A friend from another State sent me this list of why people dislike Mitt. It does the job better than I ever could.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

A lot is being said in the media about Mitt Romney not being “likable” or that he doesn’t “relate well” to people. Frankly, we struggled to understand why. So after much research, we have come up with a Top Ten List to explain this “unlikablility.”

Top Ten Reasons To Dislike Mitt Romney:

1.Drop-dead, collar-ad handsome with gracious, statesmanlike aura. Looks like every central casting’s #1 choice for Commander-in-Chief.

2. Been married to ONE woman his entire life, and has been faithful to her, including through her bouts with breast cancer and MS.

3. No scandals or skeletons in his closet. (How boring is that?)

4. Can’t speak in a fake, southern, “black preacher voice” when necessary.

5. Highly intelligent. Graduated cum laude from both Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School…and by the way, his academic records are NOT sealed.

6. Doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol, and has never done drugs, not even in the counter-culture age when he went to college. Too square for today’s America ?

7. Represents an America of “yesterday”, where people believed in God, went to Church, didn’t screw around, worked hard, and became a SUCCESS!

8. Has a family of five great sons….and none of them have police records or are in drug rehab. But of course, they were raised by a stay-at-home mom, and that “choice” deserves America ‘s scorn.

9. Oh yes…..he’s a MORMON. We need to be very afraid of that very strange religion that teaches its members to be clean-living, patriotic, fiscally conservative, charitable, self-reliant, and honest.

10. And one more point…..pundits say because of his wealth, he can’t relate to ordinary Americans. I guess that’s because he made that money HIMSELF…..as opposed to marrying it or inheriting it from Dad. Apparently, he didn’t understand that actually working at a job and earning your own money made you unreliable to Americans.

My goodness, it’s a strange world, isn’t it?

Personal Information:

His full Name is: Willard Mitt Romney

He was Born: March 12, 1947 and is 65 years old.

His Father: George W. Romney, former Governor of the State of Michigan

He was raised in Bloomfield Hills , Michigan

He is Married to Ann Romney since 1969; they five children.

Education: B.A. from Brigham Young University, J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard University

Religion: Mormon – The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints

Working Background: After high school, he spent 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary.  After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar exam, but never worked as an attorney.  In 1984, he co-founded Bain Capital a private equity investment firm, one of the largest such firms in the United States.

In 1994, he ran for Senator of Massachusetts and lost to Ted Kennedy.

He was President and CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

In 2002, he was elected Governor of the State of Massachusetts where he eliminated a 1.5 billion deficit.

Some Interesting Facts about Romney:

Bain Capital, starting with one small office supply store in Massachusetts , turned it into Staples; now over

2,000 stores employing 90,000 people.

Bain Capital also worked to perform the same kind of business miracles again and again, with companies

like Domino’s, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama,

Home Depot Supply and many others.

He was an unpaid volunteer campaign worker for his dad’s gubernatorial campaign 1 year.

He was an unpaid intern in his dad’s governor’s office for eight years.

He was an unpaid bishop and state president of his church for ten years.

He was an unpaid President of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for three years.

He took no salary and was the unpaid Governor of Massachusetts for four years.

He gave his entire inheritance from his father to charity.

Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our country but has given more back to its citizens

in terms of money, service and time than most men.

In 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his income…. Just for comparison purposes,

Obama gave 1% and Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%.

Mitt Romney is Trustworthy:

He will show us his birth certificate

He will show us his high school and college transcripts.

He will show us his social security card.

He will show us his law degree.

He will show us his draft notice.

He will show us his medical records.

He will show us his income tax records.

He will show us he has nothing to hide.

Mitt Romney’s background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and

an excellent citizen for President of the United States .

You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected.

At least I know what religion he is, and that he won’t desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers,

or practice fiscal irresponsibility.

I know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the current and previous regime has gotten us into.

We won’t like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney’s background can do it.

But, on the minus side, he never was a “Community Organizer”, never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church for 20 years where the pastor called from the pulpit for God to “damn” America.
