Better Than Puns-Churchillisms

A favorite story about Churchill is when at a dinner party a member of the Labor Party’s (the opposition) wife said, “Mr. Churchill, you are despicable.  If I were your wife I’d put poison in your whiskey. ”His reply, “Madam, if you were my wife, I’d drink it.”  He always had an appropriate come-back.

  1. Indeed, Just a day back someone quoted this:Someone else: “Mr. Attlee is a very modest man.”
Winston: “Indeed he has a lot to be modest about.”

  2. If you like Churchhill, Erik Larson has written a great book about him and his family during the years leading up to and during WW2. “The Splendid and The Vile” is the best book I have read on this subject. Churchill had quite a wit about him.
