You’re Fired

This evening’s news is disturbing. There is a report that an anonymous source fed an op-ed to a New York newspaper. In the article it reports that workers in the White House don’t do what the president tells them to do. Reporting that if what the president orders doesn’t make sense to him Anonymous does what he thinks is right. I’m sorry Anonymous but I didn’t vote for your sorry ass. No one who voted for the president wants an obscure insider changing his policy because he thinks the president is wrong.

My guess is that this person, who ever it is, never worked at an honest job in his/her life. What do you think Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Elon Musk of Tesla, Tim Cook of Apple, or Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook would do if he gave an order and the underling decided to change it because he didn’t think it was right. I know what would have happened to me if my boss gave me an order and I ignored it. He might not have fired me but he would have demoted me and I certainly would have had a marine dress down to my face. (my boss was a former marine).

For all of you in la-la land who think Trump doesn’t know what he is doing don’t think you can do better. Most business people learn by making mistakes. In fact, my leaders taught that if I didn’t make mistakes I wasn’t trying hard enough. Failure begets success.

The owner of my company was an engineer who had an idea and turned it into a successful industry. I say industry because within thirty years of his success there were seventy competitors making the same product that made him successful. Many of them were carbon copies or his design. He had a habit of giving his Chief engineers little experiments to try. He often called me into his office to explain his latest idea. God forbid I told him it wouldn’t work. “Why? Have you tried it?”

“No sir.”

“Then how do you know it won’t work? Test the idea and report back to me this afternoon.”

Often he called me for results before I got back to my office. What I learned is that this man had an idea and he wanted positive physical proof of its veracity. If I had not gotten the experiment right on the first try I had to try again and again until the results proved to him the idea didn’t work, or that it did work but the device was impractical to make. He died a few years ago as a billionaire. I am still a lowly retired guy living on a very small fixed income. The President is a billionaire, what is your net worth smarty pants?

So, Mr. Anonymous get your ass out of the fire. Let the President replace you with a competent assistant who will allow him to try his ideas. Trust me, you will not last more than a day in the competitive environment of a commercial enterprise, and I don’t want you in my government either. So what does that leave you? Move to Venezuela where your type of worker might be tolerated.

If the President discovers who you are Anonymous I hope he has you demoted to cleaning toilets in Afghanistan.
