Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? I am living proof that it is possible. This post represents two new tricks.
First, I have learned how to convert my old super-8 home movies into DVD through the magical program iMovie. Second, I’ve added the ability to add audio and video to this BLOG.
The video above is my first try at making a video and the first try at uploading into this masterpiece of personal aptitude and creativity, Grumpa Joe’s Place.
I have also added a new dimension, Grumpa Joe’s Place Productions, and will soon be boring you with new video’s from the past, and offering full length films for sale.

Brilliant work. Looks like we are at a similar stage. I recently got out all my Video 8 cassettes to convert them into a digital format, before technology advancements made them unreadable. Guess what ? They have been left in the cold (metaphorical) so long that most of them are stuck. Efforts at forcing them through cause the tape to break. I am going to seek some professional help, though I have already snapped most of the tapes in playing them.
Recently, I too went to show my grandkids a video tape of their parents when the video jammed the machine and caused the tape to break. Luckily, I still had the old film to make the DVD’s. Good luck, let me know how it turns out. Thanks for sharing.

Good for you! I absolutely have to learn about this. Does it work with older 8mm as well as super8? It seems very mysterious to me. Do I need to find a projector?

I recommend you do what I did. Seek a professional to convert the film. I chose “Retired Films Guys”. There is a link to their website on my blogroll. They do a direct conversion using very professional video equipment, and the picture quality is as close to what you took as it will ever be. Don’t expect the transfer to improve the film you took, it won’t, but it won’t make it worse either. The outfit is in Naperville and I was able to hand the film to the man and pick it up too. (Nothing lost in shipping). Communication between me and the Retired Film Guys was clear. He let me know what he would do, and how, and I let him know what I expected. The best money I spent last year.
