Let the Adventure Begin

In thirty minutes I will leave home to venture to the rehab center to pick up Peg. I feel confident that she is well enough to return to her home environment, but with reservation. Yesterday, I hired a full time caretaker, and she will be here by the time Peg and I arrive home.

Peg seemed okay with Donna during the interview. By the time I arrived at eleven, Donna was already visiting with Peg in the dining room. They seem to hit it off, and it made me happy to see Peg smiling and talking. Of course, no one had a clue as to what she was saying, but that doesn’t matter.

This is an adventure because we are accepting a complete stranger into our home to live with us and to care for Peg who is known to flash moments of femalian jealousy when she feels threatened. I have lived through this type of scenario before when I hired a caretaker for my aged Aunt Marie. In that case my deceased wife was not around to get nervous, and Marie didn’t really give a hoot.

Wish me luck, better yet, say a prayer that all works well.

  1. It’s challenging. Does medicare and supplemental insurance pay for any of it.? If my vision fails I may need someone part time to drive me around. I am terrified of giving up my car someday .

    • Up to this point all of it has been covered by Medicare and Supplemental. In home care takers are out of pocket.

  2. Our prayers for you and Peg go on daily. Be strong . Got my wife home from the hospital yesterday after 20 days and wondered who that stranger setting in the rocking chair was. We will have an in-home therapist calling once the snow allows travel in northwest Indiana, In the meantime, I have become MR. MOM. chief cook and bottle washer, and stand in therapist. Lord Bless you Grumpa Joe and keep on-keeping on. Your friend, Chuck

    • Chuck, we are brothers of a kind. I reciprocate with my prayers for you and Fran. The snow was just picking up a head of steam as it passed through Frankfort. We got two inches. Two miles south of us they got six inches and it got deeper as it moved east.

      • Grumpa, we got about 7 plus inches, cleaned the car about 3 times just in case it got cold and froze. May you and Peg find a routine to dell with the problems as they will surely come. If you could give me a call, I would like to talk with you. Chuck 210-513-9810
